I haven't heard the new album, and based on your review, I'm not exactly in a rush to hear it.

Second time seeing them this year, the other one was at a festival so felt abbreviated. They were great today. I almost have to laught at how heavy they sound live. Fuck, what a show.
I'm a bit disconnected when it comes to Candlemass. I didn't know they were touring. Then again I didn't know Emperor were touring and now I have a ticket for their show in Montreal at the end of March (I thought Emperor were only doing the occasional festival).

Sabaton are trying very hard to establish themselves as an arena band. They certainly have the material for it, but it's not on the latest album, which dominated the set. There was also a bunch of acting by old generals (Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar) before the show (20 minute of yapping!!!) and in between songs. Difficult to tolerate for an impatient man like myself.

Candlemass have been touring with their old material for years. I think you can sorta hear that Johan has to modify his vocals a bit, especially on the Messiah stuff. But they're still rocking hard.

I only saw Sabaton once, last year, and it was in an NHL arena, but it was far from full. They were opening for Judas Priest. That show could have taken place at another arena across the river from there with a 10,000 capacity in hockey configuration (vs. 20,000 or so).

Amon Amarth and Dethlock are playing that same big arena in May. I saw Amon Amarth once at a much smaller venue, so this was surprising.
