I couldn't post yesterday because of some problems with the site.
On the 30th, I watched "I Trapped the Devil". A couple visits - unannounced - the man's brother for Christmas. Right off the bat, his brother is acting strange/spooked and tells them they can't stay there. They end up staying anyway, and at some point they find out that he's holding a man in a locked room in his basement. He claims the man is the devil. This is a very slow burner where you keep expecting something to happen. It's suspense way more than horror. Not too bad overall, but not something you'd watch more than once.
On the 31st I was planning on watching Halloween (1978), but my Shudder subscription had ended. So I watched Flight 7500 instead. That was surprisingly creepier than "I Trapped the Devil" as you have no idea what the hell is going on on that plane. Turned out to be a variation on a known them. Again, not too bad, but likely not something I'd watch again.
What's the last movie you saw?

Kristy
A college student is the only student left on campus during Thanksgiving weekend. The only others are a couple of security guards and the groundskeeper. She goes to a gas station to get some snacks and runs into a shady young woman who gives her the attitude. When she gets out, a car's headlights blind her and the car leaves; we can see that there are several people in it (it's a late-70s Dodge, I think a Monaco like the cops used). As she's driving back, the car is stopped further up the road and she honks at them and they try to block her, but she gets away. Later they make their way to campus and the chase is on. From then on, it's a nonstop game of cat and mouse as she tries to survive. Despite the used storyline, I really enjoyed this movie.

The Godfather. Not much need to be said about this one, I guess. I think I saw this as a kid. Been a while.

Breathe
Post-apocalyptic movie with Milla Jovovich. Oxygen has largely run out and the population has been decimated and cities are wastelands. No animals, no plants. A father who saw it coming built a self-sustaining "bunker" for his family, but eventually he disappears. At some point, two people show up at the bunker and his wife and daughter are trying to protect themselves. Those two people are from a small pack of survivors in another city and their oxygen production system is failing and they want to see what system they have so they can possibly implement the same technology. The movie largely revolves around the family and the strangers trying to outdo each other (we want in, no you can't). It was less depressing than I expected and the decor of decimated NYC are pretty cool, though based on how long it's been since oxygen disappeared, I thought the decimation was overdone. I was entertained, but in the genre it's easy to find better.

Laws of Man
This takes place in 1963 Nevada, where two U.S. Marshalls are out to serve a warrant for murder. The movie is a little goofy at times and I wasn't sure I'd keep watching, but after a bit I had to see where it was going. Not a ton of actors, this takes place in a very small town that's pretty isolated judging by the roads we see while they're driving there (roughly 15 hours from their office). The murderer in question is brutal, and somehow the warrant was revoked while they were on their way. But they decided to stick around. Nothing in the movie would have made me predict the ending, which was a big "WHAT. THE. FUCK." I liked it.

Killing Gunther
I thought this was more recent than it is (2017). A group of assassins teams up to kill "the best hitman" (Gunther). Things don't go exactly as planned and, well, that's the movie. It's a comedy that made me smile more than laugh. If you watch the movie, keep watching through the end credits.

Re: What's the last movie you saw?
Just watched Firestarter with my roommate, an old adaptation of a Stephen King story notable for being an early Drew Barrymore child role, here a pyrokinetic on the run with her vaguely psychic dad. It's generally well acted, especially Drew's character, her dad, Martin Sheen's spook, and the main bad guy (who's unfortunately an instance of red face and sort of functions on vague mystic logic that gets problematic for that reason), has a good score from Tangerine Dream, is good looking thanks to solid direction and proper use of Tennessee's natural beauty, and has an excellent climax that has fun applications of fire. The biggest problem is the script, which ends up being an idiot plot well beyond acceptable levels and has stilted, awkward pacing. It largely coasts by on its talent and craft, but on a writing level, I get why even King disowned it.

The Cassandra Crossing (1976)
Saw this while browsing through YouTube videos yesterday and it had been a long time since I saw it, so why not.
A couple of guys break into a laboratory with a highly-infectious virus (a plague) and he gets infected and manages to escape and boards an intercontinental train with about 1,000 people on it. People start getting infected, authorities are looking at options, and one is to go to a facility in a town not far from The Cassandra Crossing. You'll be surprised to learn that things go sideways with that plan.
Lots of stars in the cast, like Burt Lancaster, Sophia Loren, Martin Sheen, Richard Harris and O.J. Simpson. It's the the whole 1970s disaster movie thing going. They don't make them like that anymore.

Re: What's the last movie you saw?
I just watched the 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth with Brendan Fraser. I went in expecting a spectacular shitshow and all I got was a dumb movie. The premise and plot are stilted. The characters are wholly shallow and generally unsympathetic. The effects are poorly executed CGI. This movie is not horrible or offensive, it’s just bad. It isn’t even good at being bad.
